The environment is filled with microbial pathogens which your pet cat and dog must face everyday. As their pet owner, you have the duty to protect them from the risk present in their environment. Vaccination is the best way to shield them from this infection for if they are properly vaccinated; your pets have very little chance of contacting diseases. The importance of vaccinating your dogs and cats cannot be taken for granted for the following reasons:

1. Vaccination is the most effective method of preventing infectious diseases, in particular, viral infection which can lead to serious illness, even death. Thus, vaccination against viral diseases established the basic of animal health that must never be overlooked. You give your pets the opportunity to live longer and healthier.

2. Animal health handlers are unanimous in considering the important role played by vaccination in preventing death and diseases of animals worldwide. It is your obligation to provide your pets with the proper vaccination which begins with your puppy or kitten and continued all the way to adult booster shot that is given yearly. When you protect the health of your pets, you are also protecting the health of your family. Transmittable diseases, as rabies, can be prevented.

3. Vaccination stimulates the immune system which then produces antibodies that protects your dogs or cats against a number of diseases that might contaminate them through the environment. When an immunized pet later exposed to an infectious agent, its antibodies will react quickly, attacking and destroying the disease.

4. Vaccine is the safest and most effective means of preventing a number of diseases. But if the animal is in poor health, its immune system will not respond well to vaccine. Before the shot, have your pet examined by the veterinarian and be sure it is given a clean bill of health. Vaccination is the pet owner’s best line of defense against contagious diseases.

Vaccines are healthy products that trigger the protective immune system in pets and prepare them to future infection from disease causing agents as bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi.

Vaccinations for dogs are canine parvovirus (virus attacking the gastrointestinal tract), canine hepatitis (viral disease affecting liver and other substance), parainfluenza (contagious respiratory infection), adenovirus (respiratory virus), distemper and rabies. Available are vaccination for giardia (intestinal worms), Lyme disease (virus affecting the body systems), and bordatella (kennel cough).

Vaccines for cats are panleukopenia (feline distemper), rhinotracheitis (viral infection of the upper respiratory tract), calicivirus (gastroenteritis virus), feline leukemia and rabies.

Start the first vaccination when your pet is about six months and booster shot yearly. But before giving the vaccine, have your veterinarian examine your pet. Have a yearly physical check-up of your pets.

So dog and cat owners, please be conscious of the importance of vaccinating your dog and cat. Remember that a healthy pet is a happy pet.

Some dogs are not able to snack on commercial products. My dog is one of those dogs. It has caused him to have an upset stomach and vomiting.

A time trusted method is natural remedies for dogs. One of those natural remedies was to make home cooked snacks. Located excellent recipes from Internet sources. However, I found that I have to be careful about the type of ingredients and how many to give my pet. He seems to put on weight because of the carbohydrates in flour?

Our pets need to be maintained on a healthy weight appropriate to their breed and activity. You do not need to chronically weigh your pet on a scale. If you can see or feel a waistline the weight is correct. Overweight dogs will have medical problems and shorter lives.

It can cause deformed bones, it can affect their muscles, it can cause excessive bone growth on their elbows and spine and there is a loss of appetitie which leads to weight loss.

Were you aware of meats such as ham, bacon, turkey skin, and those tasty fried chicken wings and fat trimmings are harmful to our dogs? These meats contain too much salt and fat which can cause stomachaches and pancreatitis. Let us also include fried foods. Examples would be fries, potato chips and other snacks that are laced with salt and fried in animal fat.

The bones in the chicken wings can splinter and cause intestinal problems. Bones can be fed to dogs, but you need to be there to monitor. Some people grind the bones and mix it with dog food.

Vets have seen intestinal damage from splintered bones too many times. Avoid spoiled or foul smelling bones. Bones that are round and thick and appropriate in size for the mouth of your dog are great for chewing and scraping plaque off their teeth.

Cooked eggs are a good source of protein, not raw. I was always told that raw eggs would help to give a dog a shiny and silky coat. But, I have been corrected. It was discovered that raw eggs interfere with one of the B vitamins and does not aid in a dog having a shiny and silky coat of hair.

Do not feed your dog raw fish as it creates skin and coat problems, cooked fish is okay.

Of course, you have heard that it is not good to feed your dog cat food as feline foods are too high in protein and fats.

Most commercial dog foods have changed to meet the needs of our domesticated dogs and cats. These animals are dependent on what we feed them. You may not want your dog rummaging in the garbage can or the trash can and eating spoiled or moldy foods as your pet will have diarrhea and vomiting, possibly worse.

We take care of our pets using commercial and/or natural ingredients. And I do my best to balance both ingredients to keep my dog healthy.

If you are like me, and would like to enhance the health of your pet through natural rememdies for cats and dogs check out http://www.infotrish.vpweb.com/ for additional information.

Spaying and neutering of dogs should be carried out if you do not want your dog to breed. The procedure should be carried out by a trained veterinarian doctor. Anesthesia should be applied before carrying out the operation.

First and foremost, what does the term spaying or neutering mean? Both relate to the different surgical approaches to sterilization in case of females and males respectively. However, the term neutering is also related to such procedures in both sexes. Pets that have undergone these operations can not breed.

Spaying and neutering also helps to prevent pyometra, which is a common reproductive disorder in dogs. In male dogs, the neutering helps to prevent the occurrence of prostate enlargement or cancer.

Because of spaying and neutering, the male dog’s loses its desire to seek female dogs and therefore reduces its wandering about. The animal becomes more controllable due to these surgeries. The dog’s tendency to be territorial is also minimized.

Spaying of your bitch before it experiences its first heat will prevent it from developing breast cancer. Research has shown that the chances of developing breast cancer is increased if the operation is carried out after the dogs first heat. Younger group of dogs therefore need to be subjected to the above operations in order to prevent future health complications.

Many veterinarians prefer that spaying and neutering be carried out when the dog reaches ages of five or six years. However, these surgical procedures can be performed even at the age of three to five years. Postoperative care should be taken seriously lest the operated dog develop parasitic infections.

Heat stroke in dogs is a very serious condition that can kill a dog very quickly if you don’t respond as fast as is humanly possible. Did you know that if the temperature outside of the car is 29 degrees (85 F) the temperature in the car can reach 102 F in ten minutes, and after twenty minutes this will rise to 120 F.

Common Signs of Heat Stroke include…

Frantic and excessive panting is a common symptom of the condition. Although it is common for dogs to pant as it is their way of reducing their temperature, however when the panting is not sufficient enough to reduce their temperature this is when heat stroke sets in.

Your dog will of course be very anxious and may start to salivate.

Your dog may have red gums but if your dog’s health has become so bad his gums may turn blue.

A raised and increased heart rate is also another symptom of the condition.

What you should do…

Remove your dog from the situation – i.e. whatever is making your dog too hot.

Get your dog to the vet as soon as possible.

You want to reduce your dog’s heat as fast as possible so it is a good idea to immerse your pooch in a bath that has been filled with tepid water.

Spray your dog with water especially around the head, face and neck.

When it comes to house training dogs half the battle is in anticipation. Your role is to anticipate them needing to ‘go’ and ensure they are not in the house when they do need it. This is a little different to the usual plan of waiting for an accident to happen and then telling them off – your dog will react much better to positive reinforcement than negative.

Create A Schedule

The first thing you should do is create a schedule for taking your dog out. This allows them to get used to when they can rely on being able to go, when they will be in a place that they can relieve themselves. This lets your dog get into the habit and train it’s own bladder.

Try to take them out first thing in the morning and last thing at night to ensure they don’t urinate during the night. Also give them a command that they get used to – this is the command that you will teach it to recognise that they can go. So when you are outside say ‘go no’ or ‘go on’ and they will understand it is ok to relieve themselves.

Accidents Will Happen

Understand that when house training dogs accidents will happen. With puppies they can even surprise themselves by going without realising it – so don’t expect a lot of advance warning.

Keep an eye on them, a dog will naturally circle around sniffing the ground before he or she relieves themselves. This should be a warning sign for you to take them outside to go, allowing them to understand that inside is not the place for it.

If you miss the accident happening never tell the dog off. Dogs will only understand something they are doing wrong when they are doing it – they won’t otherwise understand what it is that you are telling them off for.

One of the activities that you may be forced to perform for your dog in his or her lifetime is some sort of first aid, whether that be bandaging up a small cut, or heaven forbid, something more serious. Are you going to be prepared when this happens? Dogs, like most animals, have a very curious sense about them and they are always out to find something more interesting than what they already have discovered. This, unfortunately, can get them into a bit of trouble or put them in situations that are less favorable with regard to risk of injury.

If the situation arises where your dog needs medical help or some sort of first aid assistance, then it will be up to you to provide the care that your dog needs. Your help will be required until you can get your dog to a veterinarian where he and she can receive the proper care that the vet will be able to provide. It’s important that you have some sort of first aid kit or medical equipment available so that you’re prepared in the event that something does happen to your pet.

Some of the important items that you may want to keep in your dog first aid kit are things that will help bandage up cuts and/or stop bleeding. The supplies most commonly used for these types of actions are gauze, tape, and bandages. Before you bandage up a wound, it is important that you clean it with certain supplies like peroxide, which will get rid of any dirt and bacteria that may be present. Another great item to have in your kit is a blanket, which can be used to wrap up your dog in the event that he begin to experience shock.

Other items that should be included in your dog first aid kit are antihistamine, antibacterial creme or gel, and solution that can be used for washing out eyes. There are other medical products such as tweezers or medical scissors, syringes for distributing medications, and other items that can be used in many different types of first aid situations. Cotton is also a great tool to have when it comes to being able to patch up wounds.

If you are not familiar with the more basic steps of providing first aid for your dog, then you may want to consider becoming more familiar with them so that you may properly care for your dog if the situation arises. Always keep the veterinarian number on hand in the event that your dog needs medical assistance that you may not be able to provide, regardless of what time of the day it is. If you’re not sure what to do, and it is after hours, then your vet may be able to provide assistance to you over the phone or through email. There has also been an increase in the number of pet emergency centers so if your dog is in need of critical care, and a veterinarian is not immediately available, then this is one place that you can take your dog in order to get the care that is needed.

It is natural for dogs to chew, it’s a completely normal canine behaviour. Dogs will chew to explore, they use their mouths like people use their hands. Destructive chewing can be a real problem though as it can be very expensive AND dangerous if your dog was to choke on something!

THE THREE SIMPLE STEPS FOR HOW TO STOP DOGS FROM CHEWING:

PREVENTION

Generally, most destructive chewing will happen when the dog is left alone in the house. If you have chosen to keep your dog in a crate then your house will be protected but if your dog has full use of a room or even the whole house then you need to remove the temptation to chew!

Keep anything of value out of reach. Don’t leave wires hanging around, your dog would love to have a chew on those! For items that you can’t move, such as your sofa or dining table, use a chewing deterrent such as bitter apple spray. Just spray this on the item and your dog won’t go near it because they hate the taste of this stuff!

ENTERTAIN

Most dogs chew out of boredom so you need to figure out how to stop dogs from chewing the wrong things. If your dog is alone, he needs to have something to chew. Never give your dog an old shoe to chew on as he will then think he has the green light to go and chew ALL of your shoes!

Make sure your dog has a variety of things to chew in different shapes with different textures. Kongs are great as you can fill them with goodies such as marmite or biscuits and your dog will be entertained for hours trying to lick the stuff out!

If your dog is a puppy and he is teething, put a wet cloth in the freezer and give it to him. The cold will feel great against his sore gums!

REWARD

If you really want to figure out how to stop dogs from chewing, it’s up to you to teach them wrong from right. Your dog loves to learn and will want to please you!

Always use a sharp “NO” or other command when you find your dog chewing something that he shouldn’t be. Don’t shout at your dog or hit him.

It’s important to reward your dog when he is chewing something that’s ok. But don’t interrupt his chewing session!

This should help you on your way to figure out how to stop dogs from chewing!

Registered Service Dogs is a company that has been in business for the last three years. They are located on the Internet at www.registeredservicedogs.com. Many people believe that a service dog can only be for the blind or the deaf. This is a misconception! The Americans with Disabilities Act clearly states that any dog (or animal for instance) that performs a service that aids the disabled person can be classified as a service dog (animal.) The ADA clearly states that Identification papers are not needed for a service dog or animal. However, most businesses will not accept the patients verbal claim that the dog is a service animal. They want to see some official documentation stating the dogs classification and the patients need for the dog to accompany them.

This is where Registered Service Dogs comes to the rescue. We can supply the patient with first class identification papers for their animal that is accepted by all businesses. We have been in business in Washington State for three years and are also registered with the Better Business Bureau.

Following the above guidelines, Registered Service Dogs has two requirements. The first requirement is that a medical doctor has to prescribe the dog for the patient. Registered Service Dogs has provided a form on their website which makes this easier for the doctor. The patient fills in the top part of the form which is basic information about the animal and the patient.. Then the form is printed out. The form is then taken to the doctor for signature. Without the doctors signature Registered Service Dogs cannot and will not supply the necessary identification for the patient.

The second requirement is that the same form is taken to the patients Veterinarian for signature. What the Veterinarian is required to do is to make a statement that to the best of their ability they believe that this animal is safe to be in public.

When the form is completed it can be faxed into the company. The fax number is: 1-877-572-5670. Once the fax is received we will complete your package and get it into the mail to you within five business days.

If you have a friend or someone with a different name than yours please inform us of that fact so that we can match the payment up to your name. We have had businesses like Ajax Automotive pay for the package for a Mr. John Smith and there is no way that we can match Ajax Automotive up to John Smith

Glenn T. Cressy is the owner of Registered Service Dogs. He was in construction Management for a number of years. He also was a Washington State Lobbiest and ran for the Washington State Senate. He is well versed in how to run a company that complies with the local and federal laws.

Freshly cooked meals are very good for your dog. You have to remember than many of the commercial packaged meals for dogs are loaded with preservatives and coloring which may be harmful to your dog. Home made meals have the seal of freshness in the preparation which is distinct from the commercial ones.

If your dog has renal diseases, home made diets will be preferred and can be made from ground beef, slices of bread, boiled eggs, calcium carbonate and so on.

This is to reduce the protein content in the food given to the dog. This should always be put into consideration when feeding a dog suffering from renal disease. Water must be added in sufficient quantities to assist the dog in digestion.

Interestingly, dogs may suffer from allergic symptoms which may be not be unconnected with various medication given to it. This can however be reversed by given your dog home made meals. This may not be unconnected with the vegetables present in many home served meals.

In preparing home made meals, the use of the freezing procedure is used to kill germs. Also, grape seed extracts is added which provides sufficient antioxidants to the meal given the dog. Food grade vinegar can also be added to the meat pieces prepared in a fresh way. All these food meals can be enriched with vitamin and mineral supplements that are available in fruit essences, fish oil and so on.

Home made meals can be very delicious to dogs depending if you are knowledgeable about available recipes. Some owners who have since the difference in preparing home made meals prefer this to the canned sort.
